    Description

Lot is for a very rare promotional trade card type game issued by LION COFFEE in 1903.  This one is CUP DEFENDER, a yacht racing game on an oversized one sheet with game and pieces printed on one side, the directions and advertising for the coffee company on the other side.
This game is one of 60 different kinds issued by the company with packages of their coffee.  The card is complete, but is delicate.  Paper quality is medium tan and somewhat brittle.  Has a corner that has cracked off but present (lower left front) with another stress line further in on the same corner, and has a 5/8" tear in the top right near the fourth yacht token.   It is sealed in a clear three-hole punch sleeve, and will be shipped with extreme care to prevent any further damage.
It has no writing or other markings on it, and it has never been played.  This is a very rare example of a Victorian era promotional premium for  Lion brand Coffee.  It is marked with a copyright from the Woolson Spice Company, the parent of Lion, in Toledo, Ohio.
