Port side view on a 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" sepia-toned photograph - not a postcard - of the Union-Castle Line's three-funneled CAP POLONIO at Cape Town, South Africa operating for the line after being awarded the ship at the conclusion of World War One.
She was launched in 1914 as CAP POLONIO for the Hamburg-Sud but sat incomplete throughout the conflict.  Ordered completed by the victorious Allies at the end of hostilities, she was finally handed over in 1919 and placed into service with the Union-Castle Line.  The Hamburg-Sud would manage to repurchase the ship in 1921.
This is but one of three VERY SCARCE photographs of the CAP POLONIO in Union-Castle service...being listed with NO RESERVE.....CHOICE and RARE!!
This lovely photograph is in excellent condition.
