Offered is an exquisite and rare Louis XIV / Régence style 4 piece heavy French .950 sterling silver tea & coffee service, circa 1890-1910. The set features hand chased decoration in the Élysée style, made in France by the renowned Paris silversmiths at Puiforcat. Finely detailed and heavy weight, this sumptuous service exudes luxury and quality. Sets of this quality rarely come up for sale on eBay.
The service comprises: a tea pot, coffee pot, cream pitcher, and covered sugar pot with handles.
All 4 pieces are made of solid French .950/1000 fine "first standard" silver - a grade higher than our .925 sterling silver, with a gold finish. They are all stamped with the diamond shaped Puiforcat maker mark stamp & French Minerva hallmark for 1st standard .950 fine silver.
Crafted in the Louis XIV / French Régence style of flat paneled baluster form, embellished with hand chased lambrequin strap-work motifs on the necks, middle sections, and lids. Cast flower urn finials. The teapot, coffee pot, and creamer are mounted with beautifully carved luxury handles.
I will include a provenance / original receipt from a prominent Paris silver dealer in the Louvre des Antiquaires, showing a purchase price of EUR 9,000 almost 20 years ago.
Condition: All pieces have clean interiors and secure handles. Creamer has gilt interior. Some surface scratches/ patina/ tarnish commensurate with age and use.
