    This nice piece is from
    private land in NE Arizona
    in the American South West, the only region in the world that produces such vivid colors in petrified wood. It is
    3.75" x 3.25" x 1.5"
    and weighs
    18 ounces
    . It is from the Triassic Period of the Mesozoic Era, a time when dinosaurs roamed the area. This was once part of a live evergreen tree called
    araucaria
    which lived approximately
    200 million years ago
    . All of these photos were
    shot dry
    except the last one, which was
    shot wet,
    to show the colors available with polishing. (While the colors you see on your monitor may vary somewhat, I have tried to present them as accurately as possible.)
