Offered is an amazing antique Chinese Black Lacquer and Gold tone Covered Wedding Basket handmade Circa 1900!
Fine strands of rattan have been expertly hand-woven over wood and completely sealed in order to transport items for the wedding feast.
In a container as large as this, 11" High x 11" wide, it was customary to carry sweets, rice, fish, and even tea sets or candles to the wedding celebration.
Made in Fujian, China for export to the Chinese People of Southeast Asia, this wonderful Bakul Siah or "Auspicious Basket" is loaded with beautifully applied Chinese symbols hand painted in gold tone:
